A private, non-profit organisation, Foundation EOS Romania aims to bridge the digital divide in Romania by helping people realise their full potential through the use of technology. Founded in 1999, the foundation enables people to benefit from the digital transformation by helping them understand how digital competences can enhance their personal and professional development.
The organisation operates projects in two main areas: pre-university education and the wider community. The former entails training teachers in the use of ICT and working with disadvantaged youth. The latter focuses on disadvantaged communities, bringing them on board of the information society by teaching them relevant skills and knowledge in ICT.
In 2023 alone, EOS Romania has been running numerous projects that promote inclusive education, facilitate the digital transition in Romania, enhance skill development and raise awareness of key challenges within society. The Digital Women project for instance focuses on bringing more women into the IT sector. So far, the programme supported over 2,500 women in boosting their digital skills and increasing their employability in the IT sector. Similarly, the EOS Digital Academy is a programme that offers a wide range of digital and software skills courses that correspond to the most sought-after jobs on the job market.
EOS has also partnered with the Ministry of Communications and Information Society to offer support and consultancy to the World Bank-funded Knowledge Economy Project through which over 1.000 public institutions set up Public Internet Access Points focusing on bringing people from rural and small urban communities closer to the technology era.
